How to download your TikTok data, step by step.
TikTok keeps a record of what you watch, search, like and who you follow, and it will give you a copy. Here’s how to request it, which options to choose so the important parts are included, and what you’ll find inside.
The two choices that matter
- All data, not custom. Your watch history is only included when you choose All data. Without it you can’t see your real screen time or find an old video.
- JSON, not TXT. JSON is one structured file that tools read reliably. TXT works too, but JSON is the safer pick.
In the TikTok app (iPhone or Android)
- Go to your Profile and tap ☰ in the top-right corner.
- Tap Settings and privacy → Account → Download your data.
- Choose All data and set the file format to JSON.
- Tap Request data.
- Come back later to the Download data tab on the same screen. When the status says it’s ready, tap Download.
On a computer
Log in at tiktok.com, open Settings → Privacy → Download your data, and pick the same options: All data and JSON. The file you download is the same as in the app.
How long does it take?
TikTok prepares the file in the background. It can be ready within hours, and sometimes it takes a few days. Once it’s ready, the file is only available for a few days, so download it soon and keep the ZIP somewhere safe.
What’s inside the ZIP?
- Watch history: every video you opened, with date and time, as far back as TikTok keeps it for your account (usually months).
- Following and followers: the accounts you follow and the people who follow you.
- Search history, likes, favourites, comments and your direct messages.
- Login history and your profile details.
In JSON format all of this sits in one file, user_data_tiktok.json (older downloads name it user_data.json).
What you can do with it
- See your real TikTok screen time: hours per day, binge sessions and your most active times.
- Find a TikTok you watched by date, even if you never liked it.
- See who unfollowed you and who doesn’t follow you back, and your full search history.
Drop the ZIP on Unwrapped for TikTok without unzipping it. Everything is read in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

FAQ
Why is my watch history missing from the TikTok download?
You probably chose custom data instead of All data. Request again with All data. Very new accounts may also have little history yet.
Does TikTok notify anyone when I download my data?
No. It’s an official feature and only you receive the file.
My download link disappeared. What now?
TikTok only keeps the file for a few days. Request it again; the new file includes everything up to the new date.
Can I download someone else’s TikTok data?
No. You can only request data for the account you’re logged in to.
