How to see who texts more in a WhatsApp chat
Who writes more, who answers faster, who starts the conversation? WhatsApp doesn’t show any of it. You can work it out in a minute from an exported chat, without sharing the chat with anyone.
The short answer
- Export the chat from WhatsApp. Without media is enough.
- Save the file to your phone or computer.
- Drop it on the WhatsApp chat analyzer.
- Read the stats. The file is opened in your browser and never uploaded.
The export steps for iPhone and Android are in our WhatsApp export guide.
What the numbers show
- Who talks more. The share of messages per person, also for groups, where every participant gets their own stats.
- Reply times. Who answers fastest, and who usually starts conversations.
- When you talk. Activity by hour, weekday and month, plus your longest streak of days in a row.
- Top words and emojis, overall and per person.
- Media, links and deleted messages per person.
How to read them without over-reading
- A faster reply time usually says more about someone’s phone habits than about how much they care.
- Message counts reward short, frequent messages. Someone who sends one long message instead of five short ones will look quieter than they are.
- Group chats mix many people, so compare across a few months, not a single week.
Is it private?
Yes. The analysis runs in your browser, so the chat and the names in it stay on your device. Exporting a chat doesn’t notify the other person, and nothing is sent to us. The chat overview is free; Pro adds full word and emoji rankings and a card for every person.

FAQ
Does WhatsApp have built-in chat statistics?
Not for message share, reply times or streaks. WhatsApp shows storage and data use, but not who writes more. For that you need an exported chat.
Does the other person know I exported the chat?
No. Exporting sends no notification, and the analysis happens only on your device.
Does it work for group chats?
Yes. Every participant gets their own stats.
iPhone or Android?
Both. Unwrapped understands both export formats, 12- and 24-hour clocks and day-first or month-first dates.
