Which advertisers have your Facebook data?

Companies can bring your information to Facebook to show you ads. Facebook includes those companies in the data download you can request. Here’s where to look.

The short answer

  1. In Facebook, open Settings and privacy → Settings → Accounts Center.
  2. Go to Your information and permissions → Download your information → Download or transfer information.
  3. Choose Some of your information and tick Ad information. Set the format to JSON and the date range to All time.
  4. Download the file when Facebook says it’s ready, then drop the ZIP on Unwrapped for Facebook.

The full walk-through, including the Friends and followers option, is in How to download your Facebook data.

What’s in the ad information

  • Advertisers that sent a list containing your data, and ones that used your activity on their websites or apps.
  • The interests Facebook has assigned to you for ad targeting.

Seeing a company on the list doesn’t mean you did anything wrong. A shop you once bought from, or a sign-up form, is enough.

What to do with the list

  • Spot companies you don’t recognise, and check whether you ever dealt with them.
  • Review your ad settings in Accounts Center and limit what you’re comfortable with.
  • Repeat the download every few months to see what changed.

Unwrapped reads the file in your browser, so the list of companies never leaves your device. The same Facebook download can also show who unfriended you. We also have a similar guide for Instagram.
