How to find a TikTok you watched before
You saw a video, didn’t like it, and now you can’t find it. The app only shows recent history, but TikTok keeps more. Here’s how to get to it.
The short answer
- Request your data in TikTok: Profile → ☰ → Settings and privacy → Account → Download your data. Choose All data and JSON.
- Download the ZIP when TikTok says it’s ready.
- Drop it, unopened, on the TikTok video finder.
- Pick the day and time of day you remember, and open the candidates in TikTok.
The full request steps are in How to download your TikTok data.
What the download has
- Watch history: every video with the exact time you watched it, as far back as TikTok keeps it for your account, usually months.
- Likes, favorites and shares, each in its own list.
Why you can’t search by title
The export contains links and times, not titles or captions. So you narrow it down by when you saw the video: the day, then morning, afternoon, evening or late night. Open the few videos around that time and you’ll usually spot it.
Tips to find it faster
- Think about what you were doing: a commute, lunch, the night before an exam.
- If you liked, saved or shared it, check those lists first. They’re much shorter.
- If the video was deleted or made private by its creator, the link won’t open anymore even though it’s in your data.
The file is read in your browser and never uploaded, and TikTok isn’t notified. Browsing is free; exporting a list as CSV is part of Plus. The same file also gives you your real time on TikTok.
