Who leaves you on read on Instagram?

“Seen” with no reply stings. One chat proves nothing, but your whole message history shows clear patterns: who answers, who doesn’t, and who you leave hanging yourself.

What Instagram shows — and what it doesn’t

Inside a chat you can see “Seen” under your last message, unless the other person turned read receipts off. What Instagram never gives you is the overview: across hundreds of conversations, who usually replies and who usually doesn’t.

Your DM history already has the answer

When you download your Instagram data with Messages included, you get every conversation with the time of each message. From that you can measure, for every person:

  • how often your message was the last one — no reply came,
  • how long they usually take to answer, compared with you,
  • who writes first, and whether the chat is growing or fading.

How to check it in a few minutes

  1. Download your Instagram data with Messages ticked, format JSON.
  2. Drop the ZIP into Unwrapped. Everything is read in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
  3. Open Ghost Detector in the Pro Lab: it lists who leaves you on read most often — and who you ghost.

You can also reread any old conversation in the message viewer — free.

Read the results kindly

A missed reply is often just a busy week, a voice note answered in person, or read receipts turned off. Look for patterns over months, not single chats. And check the other list too: most of us ghost a few people without noticing.

FAQ

Does the other person know I checked?

No. You only read your own downloaded data. Nobody is notified and nothing is sent to Instagram.

Does it work if they turned off read receipts?

Yes. The analysis looks at who replied and when, not at the “Seen” label.

Is it free?

Reading your chats and the basic DM stats are free. Ghost Detector is part of the Pro Lab.
