How to download your X (Twitter) archive

Your X archive holds every post you’ve made, your likes, followers, following, DMs and more, going back to your first tweet. Requesting it takes two minutes; X then prepares it for you.

The short answer

  1. On X, open More → Settings and privacy → Your account → Download an archive of your data.
  2. Confirm with your password and the verification code X sends you.
  3. Tap Request archive.
  4. When X notifies you that it’s ready, download the ZIP from the same page.

Step by step

  1. On the website, click More in the left menu. In the app, tap your profile picture.
  2. Open Settings and privacy → Your account.
  3. Tap Download an archive of your data.
  4. Enter your password. X then sends a verification code by e-mail or text; enter it to continue. This happens on X itself. No other site needs your X password.
  5. Tap Request archive. The button changes to show that it’s being prepared.
  6. X sends a notification and an e-mail when it’s ready, usually within about 24 hours, sometimes longer for big accounts. Come back to the same page and tap Download archive.

What’s inside the archive

  • Your archive.html: open it in a browser to browse your archive offline.
  • A data folder with your posts (tweets.js), likes (like.js), followers (follower.js), following (following.js), direct messages and account details.
  • Your photos and videos, which is why the ZIP can be large.

What you can do with it

Drop the ZIP on Unwrapped for X as it is. Even a huge archive works, because only the small data files are read, never your media. Nothing is uploaded.

Keep it safe

The archive includes your DMs and account details. Don’t upload it to sites that process it on their servers, and delete extra copies from shared folders when you’re done.

FAQ

How long does it take to get my X archive?

Usually about 24 hours. Large accounts can take longer. X notifies you in the app and by e-mail when it’s ready.

Why does X ask for my password and a code?

To make sure it’s really you before handing over your private data. You only enter them on X. Unwrapped never asks for your X password.

Does the archive include deleted tweets?

No. Posts you deleted are not in the archive. It reflects your account as it is when the archive is created.

Can I download someone else’s tweets?

No. The archive is only for your own account.
